# Poem: Don’t screw up the Moon

*Let’s explore* 
*explore our Moon* 
*and its archival boon* 
*of Earth’s midnight and afternoon*

*Let’s* [*return*](https://jatan.space/back-to-the-moon/)  
*return to the gray blemishes* 
*for its* [*scientific promises*](https://jatan.space/why-explore-the-moon/)  
*and its technological wishes*

*Let’s also preserve* 
*preserve Luna’s natural dents* 
*its phases and cultural crescents* 
*and the* [*serene sights*](https://jatan.space/lunasights/) *Selene presents*

*Let’s not screw up* 
*not screw up our cosmic Moon* 
*nor blow up its geologic tune* 
*by letting exploitation balloon*

*It’s always too soon* 
*too soon to have no Lune* 
*in our star-wiped skies of Dune* 
*dawning past afternoon.*

I picked up a paint brush after two decades and painted this.

It’s shared to emphasize that scientific and technological exploration of our Moon does not have to involve its exploitation as well, the latter a common theme in human history. The Moon’s lasting value to Earth and humanity lies beyond short term economic gains.
